Algorithms and Accountability

Algorithms and Accountability

Algorithms touch each and every aspect of modern democratic life.

While technology has created some ease, there has also been friction and harms, often in discrete or invisible ways and most disproportionately impacted women and communities of color. Our hyper digital lives during this pandemic has only reinforced the urgency for algorithmic accountability. But how do we ensure companies and brands are held publicly accountable, push for sustained transparency and reform moving forward? What strategies actually work to compel companies to enforce their existing policies and work toward more ethical products in the long run? How can we use our position as leaders in technology to advocate for accountability?

In this RxT forum, we discussed algorithms and accountability with Nandini Jammi, the co-founder of Check My Ads and Sleeping Giants.
